How does this thing work?

At Adam's company family picnic there was a sand pit with lots of Hula Hoops set up.
Zack was in awe of the kids hula hooping.

"hmmmmm...I think I got a dud"

"darn it...none of these work!"

He then proceeded to use his cuteness to steal working hoops from a couple girls.  He did finally get it over his head but the hoop only fell to the floor...bummer.
