Although I had planned on waiting until we found out about where we will live before I wrote about the hotel, things have changed and today I am in the mood of “GET ME OUT OF HERE!”. This mood most likely is stemming from the fact that our internet hasn’t worked properly in 4 days (each day we call them up to fix it, the next day it isn’t working again) and the fact that it is raining outside. I went out this morning as I do every morning in order to avoid the cleaning ladies (it’s just awkward), but there is only so long you can walk around in the rain. I did however enjoy taking my cute new umbrella for a spin!
Today I will mostly write about the annoying things in this hotel…just know that it isn’t all bad.
I think the overall most annoying thing for me about this hotel is the cleaning lady. 1) They usually don’t come to this room until after 5:00 pm (I see them when I leave for the day at 10:30…there is no one else on this hall, and I don’t think there has been our entire stay). I don’t get their system, we are at the end of the hall so one would think you go down one way and up the other (leaving us in the middle) or start at the end and work back toward the linen closet. No, they start across the hall (where no one has stayed) watch some TV, change the sheets and continue up the hall and do the other side of the hall the same way. When I am sure to say bye and smile (in my head I am saying…look…I am gone you can clean my room now). Then they are surprised to see me when they come to clean the room at 5:00 and they skip a lot of things because they think it bothers me that they are there. 2) One day I had things to do, so I made the bed myself and had all our receipts to organize laid out on the bed. I put the do not disturb sign (which is also written in Chinese) on the door. At 5:20 pm they rang the doorbell to see if I needed them to clean. The main issue here is that the best perk of living in a hotel is that you get fresh linens daily and although I can make the bed, there is nowhere to hang and dry towels so we kind of need new every day.
The next most annoying thing about the hotel is that there is no DVD player and it took me 2 weeks to figure out how to turn on the TV. First of all there isn’t anything on in English during the day, so the TV is really just a big box on the dresser. The only way to watch DVD’s is on the computer leaving my multitasking self with only one thing to do at a time…watch a movie or organize pictures, not both at the same time.
Since we are not located on a main road, no taxi’s drive by and the people at the desk have to call a taxi for us. Since the busy times are 7:30-9:30, 11:30-1:30 and 4:30-6:30 it is impossible to get taxis during that time unless we walk to the main road and catch one ourselves. So they can’t take Adam to work or us to lunch or dinner. However if you are out and about during that time taxi’s are a dime a dozen.I am writing this right now because it’s rainy and cold and I want to lie around and watch a movie but I know as soon as I do the cleaning lady will come and I will have to stop and wait.
