We were picked up in the only vehicle that was available at Cree that night. It was driven by the new (and not so good) driver.
The meal consisted of rabbit, cow stomach, beef, duck, rolls (3 different kinds), vegetables (3 different kinds), soup, and noodles. The drink…Tsingtau…a popular Chinese beer. Each host took a turn drinking with Adam, which brings us to the title of the story. Gam Bei means bottoms up and it’s what they said when they felt Adam needed another drink. Thankfully Adam didn’t get too drunk (he pretended a little).

Gam Bei
In China when you are invited to dinner it is never really casual. There is always a reason and a purpose. Adam and I were invited to a welcome dinner by the other Engineers at Cree. The sign of a good host is that the guest of honor is drunk and that there is food still on the table (it shows that you are full and satisfied with the dinner). The host orders a ton of food and drinks and you have to have a little of everything.

Take Your Wife To Work Day
Adam has wanted to take me on a tour of the new factory and I have been anxious to see what he has been working on for the past six months. I got to tag along on a tour with a lot of other people who were visiting from Cree Durham and Cree Hong Kong and I took a ton of pictures for our parents and all you Cree people back in Durham…for all my SGE people this is where the light bulbs will be made!
Hopefully I will be invited back to take pictures of the finished product!
