The ALMOST After

Well we aren't finished unpacking and we still have some repairs to make but most of the cosmetic fixes are done.  I will post more pictures once we get it ready for resale and once we finish the sun room.

Although the carpet is far from perfect...it is a 15 year old house and new carpeting would not increase the value.  The biggest change is the smell...the whole house went from smelling like dirty wet dog to...well...like a normal house.  We paid the carpet cleaning company extra to do a deodorizing treatment, we bought and used 5 different pet deodorizers, a glade fresh spray (I am still startled by the random spray of air freshener), air wick plug ins, febreeze (all fresh non floral, non fruit smells) and coffee to absorb bad smells.  All those remedies plus some good old fresh air did the trick!  I tried to choose neutral paint colors that all went together to show flow and I am in LOVE with all the colors, even if they aren't the colors I would have chosen for a permanent home.  It was really hard to limit our updates to things that were necessary for resale.  If we were living here long term we would have replaced the carpets, along with a long list of other projects that we would do slowly over time.
We couldn't have done this on our own.  We had major help from Adam's parents, my dad, Stanley Steemer, and a cleaner who did the really disgusting jobs.  All in all we were very smart about how much we spent and where we spent the money.  Our total including new kitchen appliances, paint, repair supplies, paint supplies, new lighting, new blinds and the cleaning companies is the same as a painter quoted us to paint the walls and trim in the whole house minus the kitchen, dining room and living room (this was before we saw how awful these rooms looked next to the freshly painted ones).  We bought the aluminum blinds and updated carpenter grade lighting but they look SO nice.
It took 2 1/2 weekends, a couple of week nights, 10 trips to the dump (with an 8 foot trailer), and a few trips to meet cleaners and repair men.
The timing was perfect with the pregnancy...a month sooner and I would have been hovered over a toilet rather than painting and cleaning, if we had to do all this now I wouldn't be able too...my belly totally popped and I am feeling super preggo right now!
All in all we are VERY happy with the outcome and are praying for a fast sell...but not so fast that we wouldn't have started looking for a new place so we would have to move into an apartment while we look.
